Delivering feedback can be a challenge for anyone with responsibility for the performance of others, hence featuring in numerous management books and training courses. The importance of inviting feedback and the ability to find the benefits, however, is often neglected.

We may agree with Ken Blanchard, that ‘feedback is the breakfast of champions’, until we are on the receiving end, at which point it becomes distinctly less palatable.

Tracey’s “Panning for Gold: the Importance of Inviting Feedback” is a very practical and engaging workshop for managers and senior leaders, to remind them of the need to encourage honest debate and challenge, in order to prevent blind spots and disconnect.

She offers tips to sift through the ‘paydirt’ and find the ‘gold’ in any feedback, particularly when our inclination is to dismiss it, because it causes a negative emotional response. Often, if we are really honest with ourselves, it is the feedback that ‘hits a nerve’ which offers the greatest opportunity for learning and development.
